Held since 1978, the National Seminar on University Libraries reaches its 22nd edition with the theme "Libraries and sustainability: innovation, science and society", organized by the University Library of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (BU UFSC) and the Brazilian Federation of Librarian Associations, Information Scientists and Institutions (FEBAB). The event will take place in Florianópolis, at CentroSul, from 11/28 to 12/01.
University libraries must actively engage in discussions about sustainable development, promoting their active, dynamic, and flexible role and continuously engaging in practices, services, and actions guided towards sustainable development. This alignment incorporates what is advocated by the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals, which entered the agenda of Brazilian Librarianship in 2016.
Considering that access to information is a transversal issue that supports all areas of development, university libraries play a fundamental role in national and regional development plans. They are also instruments of significant importance for strengthening their communities, whether that of the university or the region in which it is located.
